White House weakness?

This is not the sign of a strong White House. The Whitehouse issues a "setting the record straight" press release on Saturday's WaPo page A01 criticism of Bush's arguments about WMD. It is interesting to me that they feel the need to "push back" against a single article.

  • Since Bush's attack on his critics the other day, it seems the overall WH response has been kind of desperate. The poll numbers are crashing and they're doing anything they can to get some traction. Will anything give them that? I don't know. It's going to be a long three years for them, I think.

  • Personally, I'm afraid it's going to be a long three years for all of us.

But, certainly, from the anti-bush side, we will have the fun of watching these guys twist, but at the same time, they have created some real, rather immediate, problems that need to be addressed soon. Iraq, Deficit/Debt, the effects of cutting social services for tax cuts, potential avian flu, patriot act/police state issues, etc.

Forgetting sides for a minute, it really would be best for the country for the democrats to gain control of one or both houses, so that Bush would have the political cover of "having to compromise" to allow him to move back from the crazy right position he's gotten himself into.
