  • Well, mikevotes, I did not realize that you were "Born at the Crest of the Empire." I've lurked your blog before, as well as Thumping the Tub and Unbrainwashed.

You are welcomed to my blog and I appreciate your comment. This Is War contains posts with very ugly, brutal, violent graphic photos. I have been criticized for posting them, but I believe that people need to see that war is horrific; it is not like the romanticized, hollywoodized ultrapatriotic presentation by the movies and TV. I am patriotic and love my country and I will say that there is much heroism by the troops in war. But WAR is NOT heroic. Because I love my country I hate to see it take actions that are so cruel and unjust, that make us the object of disgust and hatred in the rest of the world.

Most people do not want to face reality about war or even the truth of the political situation of today.

Do visit again, and I welcome input.

  • Thanks for the kind words.

I'm always torn on the more graphic photos. For instance, I know that my Aunt, some of her friends, a friend's mom, and a small network off that all come by here. I just don't feel that that audience wants to see some of the "meat" photos I've come across. But I do support those being posted if that's the character of what you do.

I fully agree that the real images of war have value, and I'm sure you take alot of crap for putting them up. I would say, keep it up regardless of the criticism.

I would do it more here if I didn't think it would alienate some of my audience who is already antiwar. I don't want to lose the method of communication with them. It's a real ethical quandry.

  • My family does not know about my blogs and most of my readers are more mature age group. Even so, few visit my war posts. The "meat" posts have warnings that they are graphic.

They distress me too, and I've seen too much blood and horror and agony in my life. I do not like to distress anyone. But even so, I have directed 2 young individuals to certain posts who were all starry eyed and pumped up by the recruitment propaganda and had their idealism abused with lies about protecting our freedom. Their ardor for the few, the proud... was cooled a bit. Yes, all patriotic Americans will risk that to protect our country, but there's no reason to suffer for Bush's oil. I want people to be anti-war, and especially our young people. Old men make wars; young men die in them. Or get horribly maimed, their young lives ruined. I hate that so badly.

I understand your position. You have a different readership than I do on my two war blogs. There are some of my family members and friends I would not want to read those blogs either. It would traumatise them.
