I find these images of sandstorms in Iraq an overwhelming visual metaphor.

  • I was raised in the desert southwest and remember sandstorms like that. The only thing you could was batten down and ride 'em out.

    I hope Bush doesn't take that strategy as the metaphore.

  • I've got a whole bunch of these. They're just amazing to me. That sense of inevitability and the release of potential energy. The sense of falling, being completely subsumed.

    I find it compelling.
