Bush administration determined to attack Iran

I don't know how much stock to put in this, but the rumblings of a decision already made on Iran have been growing.
IRAN -- ANALYST SAYS SOME SENIOR U.S. OFFICIALS DETERMINED TO STRIKE IRAN: "For months, I have told interviewers that no senior political or military official was seriously considering a military attack on Iran," Joseph Cirincione, director for non-proliferation at the Carnegie Endowment, writes in Foreign Policy magazine. "In the last few weeks, I have changed my view." Cirincione says his shift was partly triggered by "colleagues with close ties to the Pentagon and the executive branch who have convinced me that some senior officials have already made up their minds: They want to hit Iran." • Have the British pols learned nothing from the past five years? Do thier leaders insist on ignoring thier own citizens voices in order to act as CYA toadies for their one-time colony?

Is this just Blair's blind spot, or does it spread wider than that? I really want to know.

  • Leslie,

I keep going back and forth over whether all this is posturing or real. It would be irresponsible not to plan for all potential actions in Iran, but I can't seem to decide whether the leaks, like the one out of Britain are real "whistleblowing" reporting, or whether they are conrolled leaks to make sure the Iranians hear.

The underlying planning would and should be taking place, but the manner that these things are coming public leaves me confused.

And, EPM, there's always the possibility they have incriminating photos of phony tony, or maybe it's the fact that he's already had a Carlyle Group partnership affirmed.

  • The invasion of Iran is set, but only after a run up of propaganda through the summer and into election season.

  • I'm beginning to agree. I don't think an invasion, but a series of strikes, yes.

  • No invasion, but we can be pretty sure our various rulers, braindead moral morons that they are, have agreed to bomb the place.
