Oh my god! They're spawning.

  • Hmmm. I thought Bush was against cloning.

  • Not bad.

I love how the coverage of this thing keeps saying that bush was making fun of himself.

Joking that you think your wife is hot is not selfeffacing.

  • I'm becoming more convinced that effective humor is the way to finally collapse the administration. That they should be leasding the charge suggests either a brilliant counter-attack or an urge for self destruction. Any good averstiser knows the selling power of humor.
Bush does it far better than I can, alas.

  • Again, odd details of US history are probably outside your knowledge base, but around the turn of the century in the US, political cartoons played a huge role in several major takedowns, from Teapot Dome to Tammany Hall.

The humor allows far more speculative statements and can state the truth beyond reporting, like the famous catoon of congressional pigs at a trough of money.

I think these political humor shows will be a part of the history, just like how some comedian's jokes are sometimes included in independent retrospectives of Reagan or Clinton.

  • Mike, I am so used to the constant lampooning of authority in Australia. So much lampooning it probably takes the bite out of the approach.
I don't usually see it being used so acidly and effectively in the US, but it is no doubt all the stronger for that.
For electorates who would rather avoid the bad news, comedy is often the only way to make the point.
