  • Cartlege, I'm completely with ya.

    (That should be vague enough to give no spoiler. If you didn't see the Japan/Australia game and have it on tape, watch it. It's a really good game.)

    I'm gonna delete your comment temporarily, because I don't want it to spoil the game for anybody who taped it. If I were had a job that precluded watching that game, I would've taped it and watched it later.

    So, I'm hiding your comment not out of malice, but just courtesy to anyone in that situation.

  • That is the worst US performance I have seen since the 1998 world cup. The similarities are remarkable. Coming off a successful 1994, the US really believed their hype and went out expecting their "skill" to carry them through.

    Today, there was no running, no effort. Reyna ran around and made some tackles, but the young "stars" Donovan and Beasley were disgraceful.

    Landon, if you want to take on the "star" role that you seem to want so badly, you have to move.

    Look at Nedved. He hauled his tired old injured ass up and down the field, and you just stood there watching. Man, am I pissed.

    I don't care if you win, but you damn well better try.

    And, I'm spoiling the US game (I wouldn't spoil if it was even close,) because if you are rooting for the US, you are better off using the time to do anything else. I mean anything. It was an embarrassment.


    Again, I would recommend the Japan/Australia game if you want to watch soccer today.

  • Yeah. Costa Rica has declared a national holiday on every day their team plays. I've heard mention that the two sides in the bloody and long running civil war in the Ivory Coast have agreed to an informal temporary ceasefire.

    Leno can't do that.

  • Wouldn't it have been cool for Bush to declare a cease-fire... oh, sorry... what was I thinking?

    That was a sorry-ass excuse for a game by Team USA. And I am sick and tired of hearing what a "star" Landon Donovan is. "Stars" SHOW UP for big games.

    Coach Arena (who has an equal share of blame for not preparing his side properly) needs to sit this crew down and make them watch tapes of how the Aussies played today, and how the lads from Trinidad & Tobago played the other day. They might learn something about HUSTLE.

    Did you know that Bush gave them a call this morning?

    And Arena did call out Donovan and Beasley specifically in the post game press conference. I don't ever remember him doing that with any other player but Mathis(and he deserved it.)

    It's the first time I can recall that a Bruce Arena Team came out not trying. I don't know.

    I've watched at least a half of every game so far and that was without question the worst performance I've seen. Saudi plays tomorrow.

    By my math, they pretty much have to win the last two to go through. Unless Italy loses by more than three. It just kills me.

    And I can talk about it now, that Aussie game and the Trinidad game were unbelievably awesome. I was standing up shouting in both.

  • we really looked like crap. Now we have to play Italy. Looks like we won't make it out of the first round.

    This is the first world cup I am following so I really don't know anything other then what people tell me, but even I could tell we played crappy

  • The thing that killed me was a lack of effort. We've never been highly skilled, and we often lose to teams the quality of the Czechs, that's fine, but we've always been known as a team with great team spirit and a phenomenal work ethic.

    Having watched all the games since '92, it just kills me that now, with the technically best team we've ever had, suddenly, these guys just wilted and gave up.
