  • That's exactly what I saw in this. How bizarre to have the men who took your father away or killed your brother or raided your house, give you a toy? When the US first invaded and alot of Iraqis hadn't had much negative contact, it made some sense, but now?

  • Let's try to remember that soldiers aren't politicians... at least below the rank of colonel. And that's a very good thing.

    I believe that most soldiers and marines just want to perform their mission in a safe, effective and honorable way. While some of the attitude may reflect a jingoism of sorts, I have no problem cutting them some slack.

  • I concur. They just want clear cut objectives so they can go they can go home and feel they made a difference. I wouldn't want to think I'd killed people and lost friends for nothing.

    And, if you read the interviews with the soldiers, at least early on, they were genuinely giving candy gifts etc out of the goodness of their hearts, from their own pockets, to show a warmth for the Iraqi people. If you read the interviews lately, most of them are expressing serious ill feeling towards Iraqis. The relationship changed.
