War on Terra - Quickhits

It appears the US military has covered up, for almost two years, the fact that two US soldiers were killed by the Iraqi troops they were training.

More Ron Suskind: On the Situation Room, Suskind claims that the US deliberately targeted the Al Jazeera office in Kabul.

The Afghan government sent "intelligence men" to TV stations and newspapers there to deliver "an unsigned letter ordering journalists to report more favorable news about the government." Just imagine you're in Afghanistan, a place where people are killed all the time, and a group of "intelligence men" shows up telling you how to report.

And if you do "report the good news," what's going to happen when the "revived Taliban" come to town. They banned watching TV before. What do you think they are going to do with TV executives?

William Arkin calls BS on the whole North Korea missile threat.

And, this is getting alot of coverage. Salon has a description of a "secret room" in AT&T's St. Louis network operations center, protected by "a biometric "mantrap" or highly sophisticated double door." If the NSA was tapping internet traffic, this is where they would do it. The Bridgeton facility is the common backbone for all AT&T internet traffic.

  • Brace yourself. Having, in times past, predicted the savagery which would ultimately occur as a result of US led foreign adventures, I now find myself reluctant to say too much.
Seeing the potential and then seeing the reality doesn’t inspire gloating or ‘I told you so’, just profound sadness over the mind numbing stupidity of our various leaderships.
It will get worse, and feed on itself, creating more hate, fear and desire for revenge.
It is totally bloody barbaric, and our supposedly intelligent, sophisticated leaders have led us blindly into a situation where civilized response is becoming an impossibility.
This needless misery has no happy ending for anyone.

  • Yeah, we're in a cycle right now in Iraq that the administration refuses to break. They are attempting to quell the violence with force and that is creating more anger nd violence in response.

(BTW - Go Aussies. I'm pulling for you guys tomorrow.)

  • Thanks Mike. Wish I was confident about the Socceroos. There is a strong suspicion that Croatia is better than Brazil at the moment.
But we will cheer for a win.

  • They aren't, Brazil has played as well as they had to so far, but Croatia is mid level european competition, so it's a big ask.

But, what I wouldn't do to have my team in a tie and get through scenario. I just hope your boys don't get too defensive. All their talent is going forward and if they sit back, they'll be in trouble.
