Hearts and F***ing Minds!!!

Among the target audience, this will be believed.
(Nasrallah) "The Israelis are ready to halt the aggression because they are afraid of the unknown. The one pushing for the continuation of the aggression is the U.S. administration. Israel has been exposed as a slave of the U.S.," he said.

With every bomb that falls on Lebanon, the US loses a little more in the war on terror. Just like Iraq, the Israeli attacks on Lebanon will lead to an increase in support. This is the basic flaw in the underlying Bush strategy in the war on terror.

Hezbullah will not be broken so long as its banner is carried in the streets of Palestine and Egypt and Indonesia. It is impossible to kill an idea. (even with freedom.)

  • Israel is weaker now than they were two weeks ago. I know they've been fighting this war with one hand tied behind their backs militarily, but hitting Lebanon as hard as they have for as long as they have without taking out Hezbollah's ability to send rockets into Israel really does undermine their reputation for military prowess. I wonder if they saw that possibility going in. I suspect not - I bet they thought they could just hammer Lebanon w/ bombs and a few ground troops and have Hezbollah back on their heels and running the other way. Too optimistic of course. Sort of like the admin thought we'd be greeted with flowers in Baghdad, they've had their eyes opened by reality. And now Hezbollah have become folk heroes in the Arab streets.

  • I think they underestimated Hezbullah, too. I think alot of that had to do with their confidence that their superior air power could do more damage than it has. Like I described a couple days ago, their military is very good at striking targets, but people are much harder.

And the Hezbullah stock is rising.

  • "Israel has been exposed as a slave of the U.S.," he said."

I think it's the other way around. "Sharon to Peres: "We Control America"

  • Yeah. I saw the Sharon quote way back when. I honestly think it's a little of both. If you look at the legislative history, Sharon's claim can't be discounted, but, there's also pretty good evidence it goes the other way, too.

I guess that's the "special relationship."
