Born at the Crest of the Empire

Wednesday, July 12, 2006

So, this is "The New American Century"

Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, N. Korea, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Russia, China.

With the US foundering in Iraq, every country is carving out their own little bit. This is what an overextended empire looks like.

I honestly didn't expect it to come this quickly.

(The G8 meetings this weekend should be significant.)

(Later: Sorry, just kinda got overwhelmed as I watched the Israelis roll into Lebanon.)

  • My wife had the same reaction tonight. Everything seems to be unraveling all at once.

Can't blame the Bush admin entirely. But they have been pulling at the loose threads.

  • I agree. The forces against the emppire have been building, the the Bush administration abandoned the Clinton multilateral approach.

My theory is that the Clinton foreign policy was designed to establish all the long term rules and agreements on our terms now to manage a US fall from hyperhegemon status in the best possible way.

The Bush admin abandoned that and attempted through force to reestablish or maintain the US preeminent position.

It's really a question of whether you believe that the forces are changeable. I don't. I think the Clinton plan was in the best interests of our country and that the Bush admin's policies have worsened our situation now, but by obliterating the globalist framework, has put the US in a weaker position to negotiate its slide.

My opinion. (and the basis for this blog.)
