    I guess eeveryone in the world cares more whether Afghanistan fails than the country that was attacked on 9/11.

    Or maybe I've got it backwards. Maybe they just don't care about Annie Liebowitz.

  • I would say that not only do Americans not care, they actively resent being confronted with the tragic realities of their actions. They are much more comfortable with vacuous tough talk and delusions of "truthiness."

    I often wonder if the lack of on the ground Iraq coverage is a market decision by the TV networks.

    People don't want to hear about it. People don't want to hear that their country is losing a war.

    Good point. I think this is true. There's little money in reporting depressing news... Now sensational news... that's a different story.

    And then there's that hard-hitting Couric piece on Condi Rice. Given the current global situation and Rice's role in creating it, that was just f'ing pathetic. Good God... Pass me the Prozac, I've had enough.

    Hmmm...the lowest common denominator of "McNews" caving to pressure to not print anything that might offend the administration...I'm shocked, SHOCKED! :-)

  • EPM, Depressing news can be sold, but it has to be separate from the individual, and it has to be over.

    And, I didn't see the Rice interview. I avoid all things Couric. In many ways, she's what's wrong with news. She was chosen for her popularity, appearance, etc in place of qualified applicants. Ratings put her in charge of a Network News division.

    Kvatch, I know it's not shocking that it's been done, but it's just soooo blatant. Is there any argument beyond covering the admin's ass that this was done?
