  • I wish we could ship all the religious zealots to another planet where they could fight it out over whose god is the true god, and leave the rest of us on Earth to occupy outselves with more important things.

  • This is off topic, but I think you remember that dialogue we had about Obama a few weeks back where I said I thought he spent too much time repeating GOP talking points and doing damage to the party. MYDD has an excerpt from Obama's new book where Barack parrots RNC talking points to call Dems anti-military, anti-religious, and anti-market:

"We Democrats are just, well, confused," Obama writes. He goes on. "Mainly, though, the Democratic Party has become the party of reaction. In reaction to a war that is ill-conceived, we appear suspicious of all military action.

"In reaction to those who proclaim the market can cure all ills, we resist efforts to use market principles to tackle pressing problems. In reaction to religious overreach, we equate tolerance with secularism, and forfeit the moral language that would help infuse our policies with a larger meaning."

Nice, huh? Again, he may be making some valid points (although in some cases, like the military one, I think he's just full of shit - Murtha anti-military?), but it's about the tone and words he uses.

    "Democrats are confused."

Pithy. Sounds like a GOP slogan. Or a Rumsefeld speech.

    But it's Barack.

Yeah, that'll help Dems take back the '06 midterms.

Who is this guy working for?

I mean, besides himself, of course.

  • Abi, something like Celebrity Death Match. Put it on pay per view. I'm in $50 for that.

Reality, I saw that, too and distinctly remembered that conversation. I think your last line captures it perfectly.

He is obviously lining up to run in 2008 as the "savior" of the Democratic party.

The thing is, if that's his positioning, it's in his interests for the Dems to fail in this election which would make all of this quite evil.

I'm not yet ready to say that full throatedly, but it's beginning to coalesce in the back of my mind.

(That's his angle going after Clinton.)
