More on the Pakistan bombing - An October Surprise miss?

ABCNews(The Blotter) is now reporting,
Despite earlier reports that the missiles had been launched by Pakistani military helicopters, Pakistani intelligence sources now tell ABC News that the missiles were fired from a U.S. Predator drone plane.

And, if your October Surprise radar is still on, this was a near miss.
Ayman al Zawahiri was the target of a Predator missile attack this morning on a religious school in Pakistan, according to Pakistani intelligence sources.

  • Wow.

Not enough time for Zawahiri to respond with a tape before the election. But, if he was the target he will respond to the attack. Reports are there will be protests in Northern Pakistan tomorrow.

How long can Musharraf hold onto power there? I'm very worried about the direction of that country.

  • IThere wer impromptu demonstrations today, but they were small. I would bet tomorrow will be streetchoking affairs. I'll be curious how far into the country and at what level it extends. It may offer a really good glimpse at the level of penetration in the urban centers.

And, I don't know about Musharraf. He's caught on such a fine line playing between the US and his politics.

I think the key question is whether the Pakistanis knew before hand or whether this was another US drone strike.

  • I know. I don't know what else real they could have.

    The "benchmarks" ploy failed, too.
