September may be a new "record" for deaths in Iraq.

Make note of this line from Reuters.
Rifts between parties in the four-month-old unity government broke the surface as data indicated sectarian violence may have claimed a record number of victims last month .....

This "record" would've come after the US flowed every available troop in theater into Baghdad for September's Operation Forward Together.

  • Little more... I don't know the nuts and bolts of the operation, but it seems like the militias took the tactic out of the insurgents post-Fallujah playbook. "Lay low, emerge when the US leaves the area."

That tactic can only be countered with more troops. Which we no longer have.

How about Abizaid agreeing with Murtha? Bravo "Scarlet Pimpernel"! Heck, he was the first one I can recall using the term "insurgent"

  • Very definitely.

It's the not seriously enough named "whack a mole."

On Friday morning there were a couple ofarticles pointing out this flaw in Together Forward, that as US troops turned over neighborhoods to the Iraqi forces, the insurgents were flowing right back in.

Together Forward is staffed such that they are only concentrating on four or five neighborhoods at a time, so unlike Fallujah, they don't even really need to leave the city and reinfiltrate. They just have to go and stay at the uncle's house 12 blocks away.
