Shepard Smith unloads on the administration through Bill Kristol.

You gotta see this. I rarely push Fox News stuff, but freaky blue eyed Shepard Smith went off on Bill Kristol and the administration. He spoke the as yet unspoken truth that troops are dying in Iraq because Bush will not change tactics because of the potential impacts on the election.

Really, you gotta see it.

This is something I've been talking about for awhile, but I think Shep has a little bigger audience.

It reminded me of his Katrina moment, when finally the truth just got so ugly that he just couldn't hold the Fox line anymore.

  • Rupert Murdoch personally hates to lose, period, and in this case his sentiments were probably brought forth. That said, Shepherd probably had to get a signed approval form (or received a mandate) to do what he did. Mike, I know you grant me credence on this one.

  • I'm surprised Kristol let that slip. Using soldiers' lives and safety as a political football is a dirty little secret that usually isn't talked about openly.

But the gist of that interview is that the occupation would succeed if we just send more soldiers there, and I don't agree. In Vietnam we had over half a million soldiers there during the worst years. We won all the battles and still lost the war.

  • Bill, you really think that he had to get that passed? The whole interview was structured as a pretext to get that message out?

Or was it planned for the next guest that wandered into the minefield question?

Kristol would be the right traget for such a ploy because his war like neocon bs has become unpopular even with the Fox viewer.

Abi, the send more troops argument is the current position for those that want to be prowar but don't want to be tied to this actual war.

Also, it lays a future where they can blame the loss on the Dems to some degree for not loving the war enough and somehow limiting the commitment.

That would take some historical rewriting, but less than they've done on other topics.

  • Shep: But when can we win this thing...when will it work...?

    Cristol: We will...soon.

The Bush Dance of Democracy...has spoken.
