  • I'm struck by this picture, taken on Christmas, because she resembles a blackened Madonna. It's as if the civil and imperial wars in Iraq are a direct affront on the the Holy Family...

    Truly a war on Christmas, if ever there was one.

  • epm, I had the same reaction to this photo. It sure does look like any number of paintings of Mary. Very appropriate for Christmas day.

  • It's funny you mention that. I hadn't made the connection, but on Christmas afternoon, I was looking for a "Pieta" type photo of a woman holding a relative across her lap.
