A little counterevidence for Bush's "worst case"

It's funny that with Condi Rice out of the way, the Iranians and Saudis are talking and appear fairly close to a resolution to the current strife in Lebanon.

Really makes you wonder what might happen if the US got out of the way on similar regional talks regarding Iraq.

None of the regimes in the region is rock solid, and none of them really want the massive destabilization that may occur without such talks. So, why is the US blocking them? Oil? Israel? Nukes?

  • Abi, Which one not?

EPM, I believe that's what Bush believes, but are the others who formulate the policy and sell him the self image more practical?

  • I thought Saudi Arabia and Iran were talking about Iraq? Most recently when Rice was in the area I believe and a quick google search found this: JPost future SA-Iran talks. As far as I'm concerned Saudi Arabia talking to Iran is more or less like the US talking with Iran. Either way you can be sure that Saudi Arabia will keep US interests in mind when discussing Iraq with Iran. I still strongly believe the US should dialog directly with Iran, Syria and others, but this is a start.
