Next week

As the indications of the "new" strategy for Iraq come in, (up to 20,000 more troops in high risk positions in Baghdad and at least $1 billion in makework programs for Iraqis,) I find myself thinking the same thing over and over.

That had better be one hell of a speech.

  • I've felt from the start that this idea is just another trick orchestrated by Rove. There was no mention of this "stradgity" until it was clear that the democrats would be in control of the Congress. Rove knows that the democrats will prevent this crazy idea from being implimented, and so Bush will be able to blame the loss of the war on them.

  • I flip back and forth on that. I think it's a contributing motivation.

I believe that Bush really wants to do this, and the political people (Rove) are on board precisely because they see this opportunistic contingency.

But, this far, it doesn't sound like the Dems are going to play into that trap.

They seem to be setting up an "I told you so."
