The Gonzales press conference

I didn't catch it in full, but it sure sounds like Sampson is supposed to be the scapegoat/firewall.

I think the very existence of this press conference bodes ill for Gonzales' future. Several times in this administration, embattled figures have been given a last chance press conference to try to clear things up right before they were cast off.

If this doesn't quiet the waters, which doesn't seem likely, Abu Al may soon be gone.

  • Very interesting. The one-time excuse of "performance issues" seems to be dropped as Gonzo asserts the prez can dismiss for "any" reason. Gonzo knows the claims of performance problems don't hold water.

Did I miss something, or did Gonzo insinuate he'd yield to Senate confirmation rather then try to exercise the back door Patriot Act provision of unilateralism?

One last comment. It is incomplete to say the attorneys serve "at the president's pleasure." They serve at the president's pleasure AND THE CONSENT OF THE SENATE. This is not a plantation....

  • Agreed.

I thought the "yield to the Senate" was a very interesting if desperate ploy.

And, "the president's pleasure" is being used as a tactical phrase because it somewhat clears the ugliness of political pressure that this case is all about.

This thing is not about the firings at all. It's about illegal pressures to proceed on cases against democrats.
