(WaPo) Iraq's military readiness slips.
Despite stepped-up training, the readiness of the Iraqi military to operate independently of U.S. forces has decreased since President Bush's new strategy was launched in January, according to the White House progress report released yesterday.

Respected AP military reporter Robert Burns finds evidence in the Iraq report that the Bush administration intends to extend "the surge" into the spring of '08.

(AP) US forces "battled" Iraqi Police while trying to arrest an IP lieutenant accused of militia activity.

    There's also the news yesterday that the Karbala attack in January that involved the semi-kidnap and killing of 5 US GIS also involved Shia militia members inside the Iraqi forces.

  • i agree. i didnt mean to sound aggressive. what i really meant is that it is a democrat and republican thing. none of the major hitters and candidates in either party have any major disagreements.

    its a one party system with minor differences at the margins. the uk is lsightly better but not much

    The "center point" position, partial withdrawal, stop direct patrols, withdraw to borders, training and Al Qaeda is the likely midterm endpoint.
