It's no wonder they like Sarkozy

France. It's the new Britain.
The world should brace for a possible war over the Iranian nuclear crisis but seeking a solution through talks should take priority, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said on Sunday.

"We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war," he said in an interview broadcast on French television and radio....

  • Suddenly brie and baguettes are all he-man macho, I suppose.

    I wonder what the French think of Sarkozy? Is he the French GWB in that he's divisive and popular with half the people and reviled by the other half? Or is he fairly well respected across the board?

    EPM, I don't know, but remembering that Bush began without the reservoir of hate, I would guess that Sarkozy will end up being extremely divisive.

    And it's not just the foreign policy. Wait til he starts tampering with the labor laws.

    I don't think the French citizenry are as docile/apathetic as us Americans. We'll read of protests in the streets if he rubs enough Frenchmen the wrong way.

  • Anon, It'll be really interesting to see if the Gordon Brown cabinet becomes equally active. I know very little about French politics, but Gordon Brown appointed some pretty young, pretty revolutionary cabinet ministers.

    EPM, I think you're understating it. The French strike and take to the streets frequently.

    I'm willing to guarantee that we'll see strikes and shutdowns as Sarkozy tries to change internal policies.
