Damn the lack of torpedoes, full steam ahead.

You gotta wonder how this is gonna go down.
The United States says it will not alter plans to build a missile defense system in Europe despite findings by U.S. intelligence agencies that Iran does not have an active nuclear weapons program.

An unproven system to protect against a nonexistent threat.

  • This plan has very little support in Poland (24%), with over 60% saying it will make things more dangerous for Poland.

The open secret is that this missile defence system was never about protection from an Iranian attack, but rather is all about containing Russia. Poland is being used a pawn in a Cold War strategy.

It's kind of surprising to me that the neocons would continue to do with Iran what they did with Iraq: decide to invade and then fix the facts around that decision.

  • Very definitely this is about Russia. I can't imagine this won't be stalled out now for a year while the Poles and Czechs wait for the next presidency.

And, it's not surprising for me at all. They are pushing a foreign policy based on a much broader belief system. They're not targeting Iran because of any transient facts. Thy are targeting Iran for their broader geopolitical theory. The facts just have to be found to fit that.

  • The Czech Prime Minister said today that the system is not an anti-nuclear system, but an anti-missile system and therefore the plans will go ahead.

  • An unproven system to protect against a nonexistent threat means lots of money in the pockets of defense contractors.

  • Unproven? They've got those animations that show missiles being shot down. It never fails.

Seriously, there must be some big money for a few folks high up in CR and Poland, otherwise they would've dropped this like a hot potato by now. If either of those countries think we're going to go the mat with Russia for them with everything else going on, then they are delusional.
