Huckabee on MTP next week

Mike Huckabee is scheduled on Meet the Press next week. Is it a good idea for a frontrunner to go on that show 4 days before the Iowa caucuses?

Later: How's Huckabee's fundraising? You would think with his position in the polls he'd be raking it in, mitigating the need for this sort of risky free media.

I guess he's still not enjoying significant establishment support.

  • Russert usually allows politicians to engage in rhetorical gobbldy goop without seriously challenging it as BS. He'll ask "how do you square what you said then to what you you're saying now?" After that, I think he usually let's them engage in tortured revisionism with out calling BS.

In could give Huck a chance to redefine himself (again) in the most politically advantageous light just before the caucuses. Then again, no matter what he says on MTP, will it matter one iota in Iowa? I mean, isn't MTP more a chance to position himself for NH and beyond?

  • Yeah, but it's a bit of an arbitrary gamble. Generally, Russert lets them slide, but every once in awhile, he doesn't let someone go. Like that Giuliani appearance not too long ago when he hit him with bad question after bad question.

Even without the answers, Russert has the ability to chop into somebody.

Yes, I would guess Huckabee's looking for free national press ahead of NH and beyond, but that somewhat begs the question, with the rapid rise in support, where's the money?

I guess it's because the establishment doesn't support him, but from the numbers you'd think his pockets would be filling quickly.
