Bill Clinton is very upset

At the end of an article describing Bill Clinton arguing about Nevada's "special" caucuses to be held along the Las Vegas strip,
At one point during the exchange with the TV reporter, Mayor Ron Dellums tried to physically pull Mr. Clinton away, but the former president held his ground.

Later: Here's the local news story.

  • This is exactly the change from which we need! This type of thing Barack is holding up as an example of what's wrong with old school politics.

I am embarrassed and angry that a Democrat -- and especially a presidential candidate -- would actually work to disenfranchise voters. It's so Bush-league, and I hate it.

I said it before (and I'm hearing it from person-on-the-street news pieces) I wish Bill Clinton would just shut the hell up! (and I don't use exclamation points lightly)

  • I just read the linked piece (sorry, should have read before first posting). Bill Clinton's quotes, with his tortured logic (some voters counting 5 times as much as other voters) is indistinguishable from the worst of the Republican hounds.

I have lost all respect for the man.

  • Obama claimed Reagan was his hero today and said he admired Ronnie for taking care of the "excesses" of the federal government.

Mark my words: Obama is not a progressive, he will turn on many of the progressive groups like the unions who are supported him and he will make the triangulation of the Clinton years look like nothing.

It's a shame progressives can't get beyond their crushes and adulation to see Obama for who he really is.

  • EPM, I tried to stay out of the specifics of the underlying argument because I don't know jack about the Iowa caucuses or these fairly unique special caucuses, but I thought it notable that an ex-president considered it a big enough difference maker to ruffle him.

    ....

Reality, I think you're right. Especially in the early days with his campaign having been staked on this vague unity/change message, Obama will likely be very inclined to come to deals across the aisle.

I don't necessarily find that a bad thing(that's one of the reasons I prefer Romney on the Repub side because I don't believe what he says and feel that of the GOP members, he's the most likely to work towards consensus.)

The real question comes down to what deals are cut, and what the terms are.

But I don't argue your point. Obama will likely sell out parts of the left wing if elected. Of course, to varying degress, so would everyone else.

  • The NV at large caucus sites along the "Strip" were establish by unanimous agreement by the NV Democratic Party in March of 2007. Ten months later, and a few days after the Culinary Union endorsed Obama and mere days before the caucus, a lawsuit is filed to disallow these sites in an effort to prevent Culinary Union members from voting. Bill Clinton is apoplectic that his, I mean Hillary's, chances of winning will be hurt if the Culinary Union members are allowed to vote.

Obama has been consistent in his argument against rank partisanship and for reaching across the isle to get things done. I don't think anyone could accuse him of selling anyone out if he's elected and then reaches across the isle and governs in a non-rank partisan way. I can see why some folks might not like this, but it's not like he's some sleeper candidate that's hiding his vision of governance.

I'm not all that partisan. I actually think political parties are a pox on democracy. Given todays incarnation the two parties I'd have to say I'm more of an anti-Republican than I am a pro-Democrat., so consider that when reading my comments.

I watched the video of Obama talking about Reagan, and I can't see where he called Reagan his hero or in any way admired his policies. Then again neither did he highlight the darker side of Reagan's pandering to the Republican base.

  • I didn't know enough to evaluate Clinton's claim of 5 x the voting power. And you don't need to explain, I don't really care enough to get into the arcania.

Regarding Obama, yeah, no secret. But he is going to deal away some things that some of his supporters might not like. But again, so would Clinton, so would Edwards.
