Picture of the Day

Wow.

  • It looks like a frame from a Jib-Jab video. How oddly funny.

  • A Palestinian flag would have been a nice gesture.

  • Anon, this is only half the picture. In a chair on the right is the Palestinian leader with the flag behind him.

  • They have a flag...that's a start. Once again it looks as though the Palestinians have to guarantee Israel's security before they get a state. That's a tall order.

  • Oh yeah.

As long as Gaza/Hamas is not part of the conversation, nothing permanent will happen. Even if Fatah signs some sort of deal, it will only be a matter of time until more and more in the West Bank don't like it, and Hamas will grow.

  • Again we see Bush's (and Olmert's) MO of simply oppressing an enemy out of existence. And again we'll see that this only serves to strengthen sympathy for the enemy.

As soon as you remove the wall upon which your enemy is leaning, he will fall. Bush isn't interested in winning over the enemy. In fact he sees this as weakness. All he's interested in is force... no matter how ineffective and no matter how many live are lost. President One-note.

  • It's also a very dangerous voyage into make believe, the premise being that the US can set up these false representative entities and make deals with them and then somehow the population is supposed to follow.

It's a core belief in the neocon philosophy that the "creation of reality" creates an impetus of its own.
