Picture of the Day

It's official. "If asked to speak at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., this summer, Mr. Lieberman said he will." (WSJ)

Happy Valentine's Day.

  • Ah, Joe Lieberman. I don't care about party loyalty, per se. But the man is neither fish nor fowl... If you're going to play party politics, join the party. If you want to be independent, shut the hell up... during the primaries anyway. Good god, man! You know how to push my buttons.

Where Zell Miller is just a wild-eyed, bile-spittin, mad man. Lieberman just comes across as a weenie. I don't know how this fires up anyone for McCain. It seems to play into the "McCain's ain't no conservative" meme in the GOP.

  • Lieberman will no doubt give a solemn reasoned account of why McCain is the only one who can save the world from Muslim fundamentalists.

  • Zzzzzzz...

  • I think the main difference is that Zell Miller appeared late and quickly revealed he was pretty crazy. Lieberman is cited by Republicans as reasoned.

    .....

Anon, I don't know if he actually speaks at the convention, but that's what he'd say.

(Of course, I wonder if they really want him to speak. As EPM notes, he's about as boring as they come.)

The other question is, does he trash the entire Dem party?

  • Regarding Chafee, I don't think it's the same. Chafee, I believe, officially left the Republican party. He's not trying to have it both ways, and he's not calling himself an "Independent Republican" in the manner that Lieberman calls himself an "Independent Democrat."

It's not Lieberman's politics that get me emotionally riled -- though I heartily disagree with him. It's the condescending, disingenuousness of his political maneuvering.

  • Oh, it is different, but I wanted to put it somewhere.

But, really, to the hard core Republicans, Chafee is no more GOP than Lieberman is Dem to you.

  • I know. But Chafee isn't trying to sell himself as a Rebub; Lieberman IS trying to sell himself as a Dem. So Chafee's endorsement is only a little more noteworthy than a Bernie Sanders endorsement.

  • LIEberman: Israel puppet. End of story...

  • EPM, fair. But again, I thought it was notable enough to be posted, but not notable enough for its own post.

    ....

Anon, I don't know about puppet, but he votes their way every time.
