  • Yeah. It's a little weird. Pander. Kind of like his sucking up the the Religious Right and his newly found love of every Bush policy.

  • Actually, beyond his whole issue of race MLK and all that, how weird is it that McCain goes to stand in the spot someone was assassinated to pay honor.

    Does he next go to Dealey plaza and sit in a parked convertible?

    It just seems really weird to me, especially with his background.

    (Of course, I guess he has some cred since he fathered that black baby and all.

  • In fairness, though - didn't Hillary recently visit the same spot? She made mention of it in a speech recently.

    Perhaps it's become a requirement, in our post-60's national canonization of MLK, to genuflect in that direction. (A little like visiting all the stations of the cross in a cathedral...?) What I continue to remember is that MLK was hounded by the FBI, and that there was at least one mole in his organization. He was at the time considered a subversive intent on changing the established order, yet now he's an unassailable figure of American righteousness. Publicity is so mutable.

    At any rate, all of the candidates have now mentioned, and paid due homage to, the civil rights era, right?

  • Oh yeah, she did.

    And I certainly think that of the many nods the candidates have to make, MLK is a pretty good one.

    It just seems strange to me to commemorate the man in the place he was shot.
