Weinstein threatened Pelosi

CNN now has some backstory on those big donor Clinton supporters who threatened Nancy Pelosi awhile back.

It's particularly interesting that this leaks now and in such detail. It's just another little point of indirect pressure being applied.

  • I'm wondering now... which candidate was everyone saying was elitist?

I don't remember the president of Mirimax trying to buy an election for Obama.

  • Exactly. That's why (presumably Pelosi) bringing this out now gets at Clinton. It paints her as a big money insider and undermines he aspirations .

  • If this is true - and I have no doubt that it is - then we are looking at a case of extortion and bribery. Weinstein et al are not just saying "If you don't vote our way we will stop funding you", they are saying "If you v0te as we tell you to, we will give you lots of money." Congress and the Justice Dept should be all over this. It would, of course, require that our stalwart representatives have the integrity to bite the hand that feeds them. This is exactly what is wrong with America today and exactly what the founding fathers warned of. Weinstein and any congressmen who caved in to his demands or who refuse to cooperate in an investigation need to be made examples of and put away for the remainder of their lives.

  • Money makes the world go 'round. Of course, Weinstein is now denying any mention of money. I think Pelosi may have let the cat out of the bag, here. I think we will hear very little of this incident in the future. They're gonna try to keep it quiet.

  • I still find it hard to believe that the party of "every vote counts" would have allowed Howard Dean to issue such a draconian punishment as to disenfranchise Fla and MI to begin with. If Obama is the eventual Democrat nominee, he will be just as illegitimate to 1/2 of the Democrat voters as GWB was to 1/2 of the country after the 2000 election. This is an issue that MUST be recitfied if the party wants to prevent an irreparable split.

  • This extortion esque bullying is the side of the Democratic party which is corrupt and needs purging. Politics requires huge amounts of money to run the engines. Historically, candidates have to get elected and have relied on powerful figures with money.

Barack Obama is incredible. He has been able to maintain integrity because he has unlocked the channel to bring the individual voters and raise money in the millions. He does not need the strongarm Hollywood mogul's money, the lobbyist's money. It's the best chance we have to take America back and elect a leader of the people.

Weinstein and counterparts will have less power in an Obama White House because the individual citizen's and their collective money have elected the President, not special interest entities with payback expectations.

This is just one of many examples of the Clinton machine. One Clintonite on CNN revealed the Clinton "Rollodex" and how helpful that would be. We don't need our President to be indebted to the Weinstein's of the world. You can bet with Hillary's financial ineptness in raising money, she values that consortium. That is precisely the CHANGE we have been talking about.

Kudos to Nancy Pelosi telling him "Don't ever threaten me again". That took guts to turn down money going into a general election. The beauty of this election is, if the story makes the CNN circuit of revolving and repeating news stories, Hillary may be exposed a little more as the one who would do anything to be elected, be bought by Weinstein, or accept fake votes from Limbaugh.

If Pelosi and the leadership actualy show leadership now and stand up to hypocrisy, the money will pour in.

  • Ray, that's a fair question. If it was explicit quid pro quo than I would think it might be criminal, although if he was just asking her to say certain things or phrase it in a certain way, I'm not so sure if it's explicitly criminal.

But, I don't know, not my area of expertise.

    ....

Steve, Because of the multiple sourcing and specific detail apparently from the Pelosi side, I think there can be little question that it was her camp snapping back at this now that it appears the Clinton's won't have the power.

    ....

Kelly, It wasn't just Howard Dean. It was the committess of the DNC, one of which Harold Ickes, the Clinton lead man, played a huge part in.

    ...

Anon, I'm not so sure that Obama isn't also tapping into the big money folks. When it became clear he would win, he got a huge cash inflow some of which had to be "smart money" trying to get in with the winner. That's not lobbyist and PAC money, but it may be coming from individuals tied to them.

But, your broader statement is true, that Obama has reached into a whole new donor base/mechanism that other Dems will want to tap into because it doesn't have the usual extortions attached.

The Obama donor list and email list is a huge weapon for him to wield. It makes him a kingmaker.
