On the VP leaks
I'm sure there are many (like EPM) who are quite excited with the news that Chris Dodd has submitted vetting documents to be Obama's VP, but I would be a bit more skeptical.
At this phase, the VP names that "leak" are generally allowed to leak intentionally as a way of payback to supporters. The real VP choice is probably not saying a word.

Dodd's a great guy, but there's no way he's a VP contender. As you said this is just giving "props" to important supporters. I don't think there's any chance we'll see two senators on the ticket. (Hillary being the dark horse, wild card, maybe).
I'm thinking either a governor or.... a "reformed" republican, maybe? OK. that's probably a stretch. I'm savoring the Hagel-travels-with-Obama story right now.
Personally, I like Schweitzer. I think he'd be a boost in swing and weak-red states... to the extent a VP nominee has any affect at all. But I'm not sure how the corporate national media would play his plain spoken-ness. I doubt very much they'd give him the leeway they Old Uncle McCain ("sure his crass, doesn't know a shia from a sunni, and contradicts himself at every turn, but, darn it, he's just a straight talkin' maverick war hero! Gotta luv 'im").
The only other governor that comes to mind is Sebelius. I really don't know how the gender politics plays out from here. Would picking Sebelius look like pandering to women? Would this be a dynamic, media generating ticket? As little as I know about Schweitzer, I now even less about Sebelius.
I'm sure there are any number of possible good choices out there. I'm just a bumpkin from NH sootin' his mouth off.
Oh yeah. And Dodd? I'd like to see him as majority leader of the senate.

The only problem with Schwietzer (I don't know his politics) is that nobody knows who he is.
(I actually spoke with a woman who lives half year in Monatana this morning, and she seemed to think it might be realistic for Obama to win Monatana. I'm still not so sure.)
With Sebelius, I think it all depends on how she comes across and how they position her. She has to come across as strong and equal or it won't work. Unlike a male VP candidate who would be better served to play a more subservient campaign role.
As for Dodd, senate majority leader would be good. He's a Democrat first and the Obama folks wouldn't mind having him there. He also would fit into any number of cabinet spots/Sec treasury, whatever.
