Picture of the Day

Throughout history, some pretty sorry individuals have won power by turning stress over economic problems into campaigns of "patriotism" and hatred of "the other."

It is the last refuge of scoundrels......

  • After reading so much of the wingnut response to the Wes Clark remarks, it appears that The Republicans have employed their trademark strategy of simply re-defining words to avoid uncomfortable discussions.

The only ones who apparently qualify for the status of "true American" or "patriot" are:

"those who served in the military, vote Republican, and believe that every (Republican-launched) military effort has been glorious and flawlessly executed."

Everyone else is supposed to simply defer to the "patriot's wisdom" and place a piece of duct tape across their mouths, which can only be removed to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

These idiots are placing about 70% of the country into the "traitor" classification in some misguided effort to shame them into unthinking support of the neocon vision.

When you take a general and try to turn him into an anti-military traitor, you really are desperate and speaking only to your base.

  • Well, and add that patriotism is impossible to prove.

That's why it's such a good charge. It puts the receiver on an impossible defense. (especially when the media aides.)
