I get that you want to press nuclear energy, but don't cooling towers have a decidedly negative association, (even with the overt "nature scene" in the short background?)

You know I've been on about this for awhile, but the McCain campaign is an uncoordinated disaster.
I keep trying to imagine what that White House would look like.

The other subhead I was thinking of using, "Do they really expect us to interpret anything in front of cooling towers as "good news?"

Since Three Mile Island and Chernobyl, plus some less-well-reported screwups in western Europe, nuclear energy has acquired a bad reputation.
Deservedly so. Thinking people fear it as much as they would any major disaster. Ask the residents of Hanford, or Yucca Mountain how they feel about it. There's no upside to nuclear energy, except that it concentrates electricity production in a relatively small space.
Out where I live on the west coast, a steaming tower was constantly visible for many years, producing electricity only intermittently, depending on the red lights blinking on its control boards. It's decommissioned now for about ten years, but the concrete cylinder is still standing until they can figure out what to do with tons of irradiated machinery.

The image is... interesting. I wonder how many people know that's steam coming from the cooling towers and not smoke. The initial vibe I get is that of industrial pollution encroaching on wilderness, and the grinning yahoos thinking this is just grand.
Very odd.
And the thought of a Republican administration "regulating" (wink, wink) an expanding nuclear industry....!? If that doesn't cause you to lose sleep...

Anon, I was making this point separate from any real merits or detractions on nuclear power. Just politically, it's a very interesting decision.

Michael, There are alot of low level incidents, and waste disposal poses many, many more.
