I think so, too.
It's really the best fit among their choices.
McCain doesn't want an evangelical nut job working against him. Pawlenty, Jindal, Palin, and other unknowns undermine his primary "lack of experience attack against Obama. (With McCain being 72, his VP might be president.)
Crist is rumored to be gay.
Ridge is out. Lieberman is out.
I think Portman would be a great governing choice for him, but not a very good election choice.
I think if he picks Fiorina or anybody like that, the coverage will be mercilous that McCain is "throwing the dice" because he expects to lose.
Romney's the best pick for McCain's election interests.
