Picture of the Day - 2 - Grocery Checkout Time......

The Palin/Jerry Springer Show has hit the grocery store checkout lane. (Very important to note that the US magazine publisher is a huge Obama supporter.)

But, also, the National Enquirer,
Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin attempted to quietly have her daughter Bristol get married before news of her pregnancy leaked out, the NATIONAL ENQUIRER is reporting exclusively in its new issue.

Palin planned for the wedding to take place right after the Republican National Convention and then she was going to announce the pregnancy.

But Bristol, 17, refused to go along with the plan and that sparked a mother-daughter showdown over the failed coverup......

Palin’s ongoing war with her ex brother-in-law Mike Wooten, a state trooper, has caused multiple sources to come forward with shocking allegations about the governor.

I wouldn't want to have the tabloids chasing me with intimations of "shocking allegations" to come.

(I SHOULD NEVER BE READING ABOUT A FREAKING VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IN THE CHECKOUT LINE!!!!!!)

Oh, and they were also lying about her travel to Ireland. She wasn't "researching her family." It was a refueling stopover.

At what point does she go from a distraction to an embarrassment for the Republican Party?

  • It took me a couple of minutes before I realized the Us magazine image wasn't an Onion production! Dear god, I've woken up in an alternate universe...

  • Yeah.

Here's an alternate theory on the whole thing. Palin knew about the pregnancy, but didn't tell the McCain camp til really late or after the announcement.

She wanted the job and figured she could get away with that.

Maybe that's why the McCain camp is pushing back so hard on vetting. It's not that they were careless, but that they got used.

  • I know. It's out of control.

Last night when someone even challenged her claim that she won the Miss Alaska Miss Congeniality, I just started laughing, and couldn't stop.

  • "At what point does she go from a distraction to an embarrassment for the Republican Party?"

I think that point is fast approaching. We'll have to see who the media perceive her convention speech.

It's becoming clearer, I think, that Ms. Palin is not exactly who she claims to be. Seems very Cheney/Bush/Rove like... eliminates "non-loyal" folks, replaces them with Palinites; speaks equivocally about issues, then claims to be a long time supporter of a point of view AFTER it becomes apparent it's the winning view; big on belief, short on knowledge; more interested in spinning, preaching and schmoozing than actual hard work of governance.

And the Obama/Biden campaign hasn't even begun to swing into campaign mode...

  • It's hard to say where that point is because the of two things. 1) the blogs have been ahead of the news, and 2) We're biased against her.

But at the same time, the fact that I'm asking that question says that point might be out there.

As for Obama/Biden, it's the old rule. If your enemy is destroying himself, stand back.

All they have to do is stand around and look like grownups right now.

  • Here's the thing: all those McCain aids and surrogates have had to a) completely flip-flop on their arguments as to what qualifies someone to be commander in chief, and/or b) lie about Palin's resume and competency to the point of embarrassment.

McCain's people have zero credibility. McCain could have picked a blow up doll named Bianca and they'd be defending her qualification with equal gusto. What a perversion of the American system.

There is so much blatant bullshit coming from the "maverick" "straight talk express" you've got to wonder at what point the media feel like fools for fawning over McCain just a few months ago. Payback's a bitch.

  • Yeah, the best ones were Dobson and Tony Perkins.

    And the media has turned.

  • ...and we haven't even heard her speak yet.

    That'll be Wednesday evening, right?

By Blogger r8r, at 12:08 AM

  • Right. She'll probably come through that fine, so long as she doesn't break into tongues.

I'm waiting for the interview/press conferences, etc.
