  • I believe this is true, but it's a big "if".

That's why the feint is so deadly. If McCain doesn't take the bait, he risks losing everything. If he does take the bait, other states go begging.

The Obama campaign has been building up a ground game for months - not just making phone calls out of a list of people who voted Democrat before, but immense door-knocking efforts to bring in new people. For months. The bulk of the heavy lifting is drawing to a close, and it's just pushing "persuade-ables", checking up on soft supporters, and planning for The Big Push. If McCain's efforts soften, Obama can quickly fill the vacuum.

For McCain, however, it's been a late start devoted mainly to updating their lists and calling known supporters. It takes time to build up a ground game. The GOP really just has a "phone game".

  • And I don't know about Florida. That claim, I assume, is based on the 600,000 eligible black voters who didn't turn out in 2004.

Frankly, on a broader level, I'm falling for it. I have no idea how good that machine will be, but I've been convinced that it's worth some number of unspecified points in the battleground. If I were the McCain folks, I'd be afraid.

Also, it's the networking website that would scare me.If they assign all those people 10 database selected "neighbors" for them to contact and get out, that could be a whole lot of unofficial ground game that could get alot more people to turn out.
