Creating the impression of a popular wave.....

100,000 people in Missouri yesterday. Releasing an unbelievable fundraising number showing average donation less than $100. Colin Powell's likely near endorsement today.....

The press is going to love putting all that together.

  • The bigger the numbers and more ringing the endorsements the harder it will be for the GOP to try and steal this election.

  • Powell's attacks on what the GOP has become were scathing.

He just gave moderate Republicans the "cover" they need to abandon the Party.

Obama's lead just went up two points on Rasmussen today, and weekend polling is usually weak for Obama. Whatever the Republicans are throwing, it isn't sticking to Obama.

It all adds up to "permission" for the media to admit that McCain's chances are in the "slim to none" range.

  • Lew, As I was saying yesterday, I don't think the Powell endorsement is that important out in the country, but within the Washington circles, it's huge, and that will shape the coverage which will then affect the race.

    .....

Todd, that's exactly what I was hoping he would do (although a tighter soundbite would have been nice.) It's what I was talking about yesterday.

More than the endorsement, the calling out of the GOP tactics will probably have an effect.

Again, the Powell opinion is treasured in the top level CW setters, so, he has called BS on Ayers, etc.

It'll be a quiet impact, but I do think it will resonate.
