Observation

We're about at the point where all of those "electoral predictors" may start tipping Obama over 270. The much media read Pollster has already gone to 320-165. Real Clear Politics and CNN have several states just one good Obama poll from tipping over to 270.

When Obama starts to get those projections, that means he's winning 270 EV by 5% or more.

I really think that could matter in the race narrative.

(Facing this, John McCain is going back to Iowa?)

Later: A PPP poll came back Obama +8 in Va. RCP now tips over to Obama 277, McCain 163, and Pollster gave 320 this morning (without Va.)

We'll have to wait and see if they kick any of the network maps over. That's when the story likely takes off.

  • I'm still worried about the Palin/McCain, Klan-lite rallies. I find them disturbing on a human level -- forget politics. I don't know what sort of influence these have on the broader electorate, but they sure seem to fire up whoever's showing up to these things.

Remember: Palin comes from that broad religo-political fringe that enables, if not supports, assassination of doctors who perform abortions and the bombing of clinics. McCain may have lost control of the monster...

  • I agree with the uncomfortable, but thus far, there's been no impact on the tracking polls, and these attacks started Saturday, and that's what this post is about.

I can't even say that if Obama reaches 270 in the projections, he will stay there, but I think the phrase "If the election were held today, Obama would unquestionably win" is a pretty powerful force in the battle for narrative.

As for the crazies. Yeah, they already out there. You just have to trust that the SS knows it's job. There's nothing else you could do but worry, and you really don't get anything from that.

  • I would really like to see the question posed to McCain in an interview, whether he felt any responsibility for his campaign tactics leading to this.

I'm sure he'd say, no, we can't control what people say, but I'd still like to see that little moment of accountability.
