Picture of the Day - The empty GOP

Reading about Giuliani considering another run for the White House or NY Governor got me thinking.

Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber weren't the only gimmicks or symbols on the GOP side this time. We also had "noun, verb, and 9/11" and Fred Thompson thrown around as serious candidates.

If you want a feel for how empty the GOP is, think about that.

  • One of the unfortunate consequences of the echo chamber and of the MSM's reluctance to take the GOP to task over the past eight years is that these ridiculous figures are given more attention than they deserve.

FNC will still be able to create new parodies of the GOP, such as Joe the Plumber, but they will fail to move into the mainstream national consciousness for the foreseeable future. Pundits are much more wary of the buying into the Republican patter than they were previously. Remember when Giuliani and Thompson were supposed to be the Party's presidential nominees?

  • Yeah, I don't know if symbols in their entirety have failed or just the GOP's invocation of them. Is it the application or the message or the issues?

The public has largely rejected the GOP symbols this cycle. They just don't believe them.
