Blagojevich, an "ongoing investigation"

I understand the why, but after the last eight years, I find it a little dispiriting to hear Obama and the transition say they're not going to comment on "an ongoing investigation."

  • The Obama group aren't verbose media-whores. That's what I like about them.

  • That's a positive spin.

Maybe it's because I watched all the Bush scandals so closely, but that phrase, now a near joke, "not going to comment on an ongoing investigation," carries such a stigma of guilt.

  • Maybe this guy has been a subject of rumor and speculation for years in Illinois, but here on the west coast he's an unknown quantity. This news seems to come out of nowhere, and it's very dispiriting: it's in Illinois, from which Obama comes, and it's about his Senate seat.

I know it's too much to expect that politicians be nice people, but apparently it's also too much to ask anymore that politicians be honest.

  • Yeah, Blagojevich was always an if not when he'd get busted.

But, there are some new ethics rules kicking in in three weeks and this senate seat was his last huge payday.

(And I think Fitzgerald went because he was about to name someone.)

  • Almost looks like a Chicago tradition.
