Slushy asserted intel

Make note that both DNI Mike McConnell and Sec State Rice have tried to make soft assertions of possible Al Qaeda links in the Mumbai attacks.

And the data to back up those statements is where?

  • Not to mention the elevated fret level that terrorists wish to do us harm (duh) based on, well, that what makes terrorists terrorists... not on any, you know, new facts or actual capacity to attack.

The fog of uncertainty and fear.... GOP stock and trade.

  • We don't jump to conclusions. We just mention them as often as possible.

  • It just seems so unnecessary and wrong headed, especially after all the bad intel handling and the results of that.

I don't know the logic behind it, whether it's that all terrorists lead back to Al Qaeda, or if, maybe, it's an attempt to delegitimize the very real political claims over Kashmir?

    Just sloppy or an agenda?

  • Mike,

it's both sloppy, agenda, and accurate. The ISI is al-Q. The really interesting bread crumb in all this is that all the dead terrorists had their faces erased. Why would, or how could, the Indian special forces have done that?

A separate Kashmir would serve everyone's agenda except India's, and even then that's debatable.

  • You'll probably disagree with me, but I see Al Qaeda as independent, but the ISI has influence.

As for this attack, if you believe the idea that Pakistan wants to move its troops from the FATA to the east and focus on Kashmir, almost all the groups in Pakistan want that to happen, Al Qeda, Taleban, tribal leaders, Pak military, ISI, and to a lesser degree Pak gov't.

Working on that premise, that the Mumbai could allow a reduction of forces moving eastward, almost all of those factions I listed have a motivation for those attacks.

(I still think it was the pro-Kashmiri's, but I have a hunch they had at least tacit and logistical help from somebody.)
