It appears Harry Reid will be the weak link.

Pelosi looks strong, in control, and ready to go. The Obama White House looks loaded and "ready on day one."

But the early signs are that Harry Reid will be the weakest link and have the most trouble consistently corralling support and managing legislation. Part of that is Senate rules, part of that is the way the Senate works, but his leadership over the years cannot be described as strong handed.

(And this Burris thing just makes him look weaker.)

  • I'm wondering if Biden-as-consiglieri might come into play. It had been an assumption that Biden would be a player in advocating for Obama's agenda with congress.

Also, what are the chances Reid is replaced? Slim to none, I sadly suppose. God I'd love to see a Kennedy or someone Feingold as majority leader. Someone with a little passion and backbone, not just empty talk.

  • I think it's slim to none that he gets replaced. It won't happen mid term, and they just reelected him in that lame duck session.

And, we have to accept that part of his limitation is the rules of the Senate and the way Senators are more prone to individualism. But still, he has hardly been an iron fist.

  • The whole Burris thing blew up in his face. Burris may not be corrupt, but he's an egomaniacal ass and publicity slut. Reid never should have gone out on a limb claiming he wouldn't seat anyone appointed by the repugnant, but still leagally in office, Blagojevich.

Reid brought the crappy FISA bill to the floor. Reid has never held the Republicans feet to the fire regarding filibusters....

I'm cutting him some slack given Senate rules and procedures, not to mention the razor slim majority the dems had in the 110th, but today's a new day. And the midterms are still an open question...

I just find Reid much more bark than bite.

  • Supposedly, he's decent in the backroom strategy, but, I don't know.

He has very little control over the egos on the Dem side.
