Thought

In 40 years, when history has a fair chance to judge, all will say this huge economic recession and the slow response to Katrina were the acts of a great president.

  • I had thought the Administration prediction was that in 60 to 100 years people would look back on Bush as a great president...not in 40.

    I wonder if it a coincidence that so many of the retrospectives feature Katrina prominently. I think that prior to 8/05 the Republicans and Bush largely had "the benefit of a doubt" from the public, but after Katrina all of that slipped away. Bush, perhaps more so than any President in the past 40 years, required "the benefit of a doubt" on almost every issue.

    And they still don't seem to realise that that trust and credibility is gone. Instead, it's just "Bush Derangement Syndrome" and the "liberal media" to blame.

  • I think future generations will shake their heads disbelievingly, aghast that he was ever, somehow, elected... much as I did in 2000 and 2004.

  • Todd, Katrina was a turning point because it was everywhere and shocking. Unlike Iraq where distance and news coverage made it possible for people to live in denial, everyone saw Katrina, and it was so clear.

    r8r, I'm not sure about 2000, but 2004 will puzzle them.
