Stimulus bill lacks Senate votes....

The Senate leadership conceded that they don't have the votes to break a filibuster on the Stimulus bill as it is currently written.

The Republicans have won this battle so far (with an assist from the media,) making the discussion about the political, not the economic or practical.

(Does anyone remember what happened when the Republicans torpedoed the first TARP legislation?

The Dow dropped from 10,5 to 8,5 in eight business days. That was the window during which lending truly froze up, during which spending fell off a cliff. ....and they want to do it again....)

  • I'm getting frustrated with the media giving the Republicans an unchallenged platform from which to shout their fantasies and fabrication. But also I'm frustrated with the Dems for their legendary incompetence with message formulation and delivery. Harry Reid sucks as a spokesman.

The Repubs will be calling for corp. and cap. gains tax cuts even if 90% of Americans were living in Mumbai-like slums. It's an incorrigible beast, the GOP, and if it can't be corralled, it must be killed. Really. They're pushing us over the cliff and the coiffed and botoxed talking heads are cheering all the way.

  • The cap gains tax cuts went from being a placation to the business/funding arm of the GOP, to an article of faith.

I find it fascinating that the religious republicans now embrace these tax cuts dogmatically.
