Headed back to his undisclosed location (lair)

They tried to bring Cheney out to make the "scary" argument.
Seventy-two percent of those questioned in the poll released Monday disagree with Cheney's view that some of Obama's actions have put the country at greater risk, with 26 percent agreeing with the former vice president.

I hope this means we won't see him again.

We can only hope... My he live a long quite life... forgotten and in obscurity.

And I think think in any poll you'll find 26% is the floor. That's simply the proportion of bat-shit crazy we have in the US. So I choose to read the poll results as being as strong a rebuke of Dick Cheney as statistically possible, given the sampling pool.

  • Yeah. In partisan style polls of approval, yes. Bush pretty much proved the Republican side of that equation.

I'd be really curious about the phrasinmg and methodology, though. I mean, just six months ago, the Republicans spent hundreds of millions to persuade the counter case, so 73% "not less safe" is a pretty impressive number.

  • I really hate to sound like a broken record, but this just proves that Republican credibility is zero beyond the base.

They make wild claim after wild claim, and truly believe that the public will buy it simply because they said so. When it doesn't stick, they simply repeat it louder, as if the nation is hard of hearing, and they sit back and wait for people to lap it up.

And when that doesn't work, it's the fault of the "liberal media", who fails to convey the brilliance of their latest slanders and assertions.

They believe they are the majority because they isolate themselves from contrary opinion. People have largely learned not to argue or discuss things with these wingnuts, because it always ends up in a spittle-flecked shriek of "Liberal!!" from the wingnut. And so the wingnuts maintain their belief that everyone agrees with them.

The Right has given up on trying to persuade the majority of Americans, and instead has convinced themselves that the majority already agrees with their positions. It's easier that way.

  • Yeah. At least right now. Soft polling questions like this can swing, but for now, nobody's buying what they're selling.... even if it's "Pirates!!!"

And, I think you hit on an image I may steal. Republicans as tourists in a foreign country repeating themselves louder and slower, thinking that the locals are stupid. (When of course the locals aren't. They're telling the tourists that they're car just got stolen.)

    You know what I mean?

  • Brilliant analogy, Mike!
