That seems a pretty gaping hole in the argument, no?

The sad thing is that we've moved beyond the discussion of whether torture is or is not in line with what America stands for. We're now discussing whether it produces "valuable information."
This generation (Cheney, Bush et al.) wrap themselves in the flag of WWII-era "patriotism", yet everything they promote is diametrically opposed to what "The Greatest Generation" fought for... and died for. The Cheney's, Limbaughs, and all the Rump Repubs are taking a metaphorical piss on the graves of those who built this country, in my opinion.

Very much so. That's why this possible story is such a big deal. There's no valuable information gained in torture looking for an Iraq-Al Qaeda connection. No ticking bomb defused. No attacks prevented.
The argument could be about to shift. I wrote more in the comments of the other post.
