A small thing, but a big thing

Apparently, the Obama budget stops all funding for the "reliable replacement program," the program which was designing and developing a next generation of nuclear weapons.

  • Sounds like a good idea to me, but I have no idea what the problems may be to rely on an older generation of atomic weapons.
    Seems we have plenty of weapons to secure our atomic superiority and defense.
    Seem logical that since we have to start cutting somewhere, this is a logical choice.

  • There's a couple things at play. How real is the "reliability" issue? How much the US would really save on maintenance of the new designs after the costs of development and building the weapons?

    It was part of the larger treaty abrogations. IF you want to talk disarmament with anyone, you pretty much have to give this up.
