It's all about who gets credit

Notice that Republicans are now trying to deny Obama credit for any economic rebound. It would be death for them, after shouting "socialist"and blanket opposition for so long, to have Obama's policies given credit for the recovery.

(I'm not qualified to say whether the Stim bill has anything to do with any rebound. I'm not arguing that. What I am saying is that a perception that "Obama saved the economy" would be politically huge and hugely damaging to the Republicans.)

  • Republican's are frantically trying to knee-cap Obama and his policies, through both rhetoric and congressional (in)action.

There is a meme out there in conservative circles to sort of boycott GM because of the government involvement. It's actively working to bring about failure of GM -- and by association Obama. But it's incredibly shortsighted since these people ARE the government... they ARE the shareholders they hope to screw out of success.

    My head spins...

  • I haven't seen any calls for a GM boycott, but I don't travel big on the righty blogs.

And, I'm not sure such a thing would work as a propaganda piece. If the Obama folks are successful in framing GM as America, as they sort of have been so far, it would seem like a boycott would collide with that message, signifying a right side that wants America to fail, you know?

Not quite "rooting against the troops," but actively working to collapse a company that employs so many Americans seems like a loser position to be pushing.

    Maybe I'm wrong?

  • I'm not talking about a Fox-promoted "grassroots" boycott. I'm talking about something more organic. Where wingers are so resentful of "socialist" Obama turning GM into "Government Motors" that they emotionally turn against GM... and their own self interest in its future success. It really is a rooting against the troops (or against your country) type of thing. But it's more a part of the winger DNA than a Washington talking point campaign.

I'm basing this on some letters to the editor I've read in local NH papers.

  • I getcha, but what wingers do falls on the party. They created that by claiming the artificial grass roots teabaggers. They threw their lot in with that populist propaganda and will now take blame by association if a GM boycott becomes something.
