Oppo research

This is kinda nothing, but as it meshes with the earlier post about resurgent Dem oppo research, I thought I'd mention it.

The DCCC dumps a little oppo research on tonight's "Republican response" speaker to Obama's healthcare speech. It turns out that Rep Boustany allegedly tried to buy an English noble title for $68,000 in the mid 90's. (He was defrauded.)

(And through the less formal channels, it's being pressed that Boustany is a "birther.")

Three points marks a trend, right?

  • The thing is Democrats don't have a media infrastructure establishment like the Republicans. Thirty years of rightwing hate radio, fundamentalist/Christianist radio, television and pulpit politics, and FoxNews.

The rightwing really has its propaganda machinery figured out. Look how disproportionately powerful they are compared to their elected representation. Not only in the numbers of Republican member of congress, but more startlingly, in the proportion of citizens represented by those politicians. A stunning piece of propaganda effectiveness indeed. Talk about the tail wagging the dog...

  • They don't really have a driven media machine, but they control the internet.

Because you're looking at 6 million blogs and their readers, you're not going to get the talk radio marching orders response.

However, most of the press reads the big lefty blogs. That doesn't get the talking points or interpretations out ther, but the Dem system does a much better job of exposing scandal/wrongdoing.

    So, that's a yeah, but....

  • One thing I kinda left ouyt. The multitude of lefty bloggers represents a "trailing" force (following every word Republican politicians say,) and an investigative force to run down all the dead ends.

That workforce is far bigger than the right wing utilizes.
