Quote

How very Christian of Richard Land, Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission,
"What they are attempting to do in health care, particularly in treating the elderly, is not something like what the Nazis did. It is precisely what the Nazis did."

I mean, Wow.

  • This was from last month, and Land subsequently apologized - though not, apparently, for being wrong but only for offending Jews.

  • Gotcha. I just ran across it today as Doonesbury had it as their quote.

It just seemed so unbelievable to me that a "born again" slef proclaimed leader would veer so far from Jesus. Would call caring for the poor nazi.

    It just blew my mind.

  • I think this illustrates the great divide on the issue.

Land, and the group he was speaking to, really do believe that health care reform will result in elderly and disabled people being euthanized or denied care. If that's what you think, the Nazi comparison makes more sense.

Unfortunately, they believe these things at such a visceral level that they can't see the inconsistency with their other beliefs.

  • The only thing is, as far as anyone knows, there will be no such provisions in the final bill.

That belief itself is based on a politically spun fantasy.
