Thought for the Day - Hoffman further elevates Dick Armey.

When NY-23 rep Doug Hoffman went to the local editorial board, he was accompanied by his "adviser" Dick Armey, the FreedomWorks leader and the man who is currently pulling the teapartiers' strings.

Dick Armey has turned the anti-healthcare August into his own personal powerbase. Right now, his control of the teapartiers makes him, perhaps, the most powerful (or at least most feared) Republican powerbroker.

Tell me Republicans across the country aren't seeking him out and answering every one of his calls.

Related: NY-23 Republican Scozzafava endorsing the Dem Bill Owens, she's actually making appearances with him. (More cynically, if Owens wins, local Republicans will probably take the seat back next year. If Hoffman wins, it's not as likely.)

  • Generally speaking, American voters are one big bag of dumb-ass. I think the idea of civic responsibility that was once the core of American principles (conservative and liberal alike) has been turned on it's head.

  • I kinda buy that argument, but I also want to point out that this is something of an anamoly with all that money being thrown in in the last 2 weeks. The nature of the late peak means that Hoffman hasn't had the full time of exposure.

  • Yes, but... There are already some number of Teabaggers in the House. Hoffman is just the so visible because he comes as a challenger.

Races and PA and FL will give a better idea of where the GOP is going vis a vis the 'Baggers.

  • Any chance we will ever see the GOTP?

  • I agree completely about FL Sen. being the primary race to watch. I think Pa Sen. is a little more complicated because of Sepcter's party switch.

And, I would add that Texas Gov primary. It's not quite teabag v. moderate, but it will be wingers versus mainstream in the biggest red state.

It'll be really interesting. Plus, we have the second section where the victorious primary winners have to try to appeal to the center. Nopt so much an issue in very red NY-23, but in other places, Texas, Fla, it will be essential.

    ....

Anon, GOTP? Ghosts of the past?
