Thought for the Day

There have been alot of (obviously self-motivated) "leaked" stories about how the White House should have more closely followed Rahm Emanuel's strategy on healthcare in the last week with a couple even mentioning "all that he gave up to take the post and the discontent implying idea that Emanuel never planned to serve more than two years.

Obama doesn't seem one who would take well to self serving extra narratives from subordinates with their own motivations. I gotta wonder how that's playing behind closed doors.

...but then again, Emanuel was a Clinton guy, so this may be second nature.....

  • You know who "wins" in politics? Those who relentlessly stick to their convictions and those who out-media the other side. Usually both.

Bipartisanship is when opponents join together to advance their individual careers at the expense of their constituents.

Obama, I think, is always looking at the long game. He's got the Oval Office until Jan '13. While I'm disappointed in his seeming lack of alpha-dog leadership in his first year, I want to think he's learned how his "enemies" think and work in that time. And I want to think that the Republicans have gone all in with no room to maneuver... not "weapons" in reserve, while Obama does.

In other words, Obama has a foundation of temperance, of reaching out and compromising (again and again and again). He has room to up his alpha-dog game, while the Republicans have already run to the limit of obstructionism, hypocrisy and crazy. Where do they go form there?

The media always wants a new meme. I think it's possible the media might actually start reporting on the rank obstructionism, hypocrisy and crazy as being just that. The new meme could be "Obama finds footing, comes out a strong leader."

    Or not...

  • Well, they did jump on Bunning, although he's a riskless target, unpopular, no influence, and retiring soon.....

  • Mike,

This is Cheryl, from the dog park. (Lola's mom.) I just got an email from the principal at my kids' school. They found a stray dog, about a year old, who, they say, is very sweet but they can't keep her. If they can't find someone who wants her, they plan to take her to the SPCA tomorrow. Is there a better (no-kill, animal-rescue-type) shelter they could take her to? My email's cherylursin@yahoo.com. Thanks!

  • Returned an email to you. Short version, google animal shelters houston and you get a list of like 25. then hit the phone. Even the kill shelter will probably give you no kill phone numbers if you sweet talk.

I think maybe "friends for life." something like PALS. Definitely Citizens for animal protection if they have space.

  • I just picked up on the "cliinton guy" reference. Like Lanni Davis and (for a time) Dick Morris.... Political mercenaries.

  • I think Rahm's a true Dem. I just think he was brought up with the Clinton admin ethos.
